Default Cold Air Intake for 2004 F-150 4.6

Looking for a relatively cheaper cold air intake than the K&N and Roush ones. I only want to spend under $300. Are there any decent cold air intakes in that price range? If not I may just stick with the K&N drop in filter. Although I am looking for that bit of extra performance and sounds. 2004 F150 4.6

Look up "Gotts mod". You take out the restrictor (actually I think it's an acoustic reflector) where the intake tube enters the fender and replace it with a piece of PVC or ABS. It gives you a little more sound under heavy throttle, and possibly 1 - 2 HP. No intake mod is going to make a performance increase that will be detectable with a stopwatch. The Gotts is as good as any, and costs nearly nothing. It just takes a little grinding to get the new plastic nipple to fit the fender opening. I would avoid the K&N. Their filtering quality is debatable and the MAF doesn't like the oil residue that results from a wet filter.

The stock system is a cold air intake. You won’t gain anything so spen your money elsewhere IMO. Also avoid the K&N drop in as the oiled filter is not good for the mass air flow sensor or intake manifold.
