Default Coil packs

I just bought an 07 fx4 and when I bought it the dealership agreed to rebuild the rear end (it was making a loud noise) and do the cam phasers. This was all 1k miles ago. The truck has 100,000 miles and I replaced the spark plugs a few days ago and ever since then it is making a loud ticking noise. I have found on here that it's more than likely the coil packs. I know the previous owner and he told me that he just replaced a few of the coil packs. Since I don't know which ones I am going to replace all 8. I found a set of 8 on amazon that are surprisingly cheap. Does anyone have any experience with these? Or does anyone have a suggestion for which ones to buy?

If they're the ones I'm thinking of, they're lifetime warranty right? A few reviews needed some to be replaced out of the box, but overall had a good review. Seems like something worth trying. I know there was a thread about 5.0 coil packs at 1a auto for 150/8, that people seemed to think was good quality.

They have a limited one year replacement t warranty. I can't decide if I should do those or just spend the money on the Accels.

With your mileage they should not all be failing.
Clean them, apply a small amount of dielectric grease.
Replace them as necessary one at a time as you get misfires.

Did you torque the new plugs when you installed them? They'll back out if you didn't... could be your problem. Ford says 25-28 ft lbs.

Well Accels are junk......buy OEM, sets of 8 are under $38 each on Rockauto. Also the ticking is most likely plugs that weren't torqued as stated.

I just went out and checked the torque on all the plugs. The one on the back of the drivers side wasn't even close to being tight. I torqued it and the "tick" went away. Thanks guys. Of course I broke the effing clip going to the coil pack. I will be canceling my order but just for future reference what makes the oem the superior coil of choice? The accels all seemed to have great reviews.

OEM is the choice because they rarely go bad. What goes bad is the boot and spring. Replace the boot and springs for under $40 for all 8 and that "rebuilds" the coils. I have never had a coil go bad. 3 trucks all over 150k, one at 200k and a couple more around 100k and never replaced a coil due to misfires.

From what I've read you can go with the cheap ones just NOT Accels. Most of the cheap ones you can get 2 sets for the price of one set of OEM. If you get some bad ones you'll have spares to replace. However I have since became a full on believer in not needing to replace coils. Only in a very rare instance will you need to actually replace one. Most of the time you can put new springs and boots on them, clean them up really well and they will work again. I recently had one fail and replaced it with the Orileys brand (I don't remember the name) and the problem was fixed. Just for S&Gs I cleaned up the old one really well and put it back on and it is now running just fine. I will keep the off brand one as a replacement just in case.

On the boards here Accel seems to give people the most grief. Some say OEM and for reasons that they meet the manufacturer's spec where as aftermarket may or may not. There's people on here that have bought 8 chinese X brand for $50 and have had no issues, and there's people that have had nothing but issues. I'm still on all 8 from the factory at 154K, I suppose it's more or less a crapshoot.
