Try engaging the four wheel drive when the noise is occuring,I bet that the noise will stop, this concern usually indicates that there is vacuum loss to the IWE hubs, which will allow the hubs to partially engage, check connections of the vacuum lines to the hubs, there are two one way check valves that prevent vacuum from bleeding down. These have been known to fail, and lastly the solenoid located behind the battery can injest water which causes the internal valve to stick,an updated part is available through FOMOCO.If this is the same concern and left un-attended it may prove or turn costly,as the IWE ends and possibally the wheel bearings can become damaged. Lastly do not assume that because you have warranty all parts are cover, have your dealer or contract provider check available coverage.

I understand this is an older post but.... is t similar to engaging the cruise?
I have the same noise come from what appears to be the passenger wheel area but when I put cruise control on it either stops or is really low, in volume, where I can't hear it.

My 2006 5.4L does the same thing. Ticking from the passenger side. I usually only hear it during acceleration, and it usually goes away a bit once its warm. I'm thinkin' its a exhaust manifold leak, maybe wrong? any other thoughts?

Next time you go through a tunnel or drive through, listen for it. You'll be able to hear it better and identify the source. Also setting a piece of plywood up on either side of the truck will produce the same effect.

Mine is doing the same thing. Not sure if it is a stuck lifter or exhaust leak but in either case its producing a gas smell in the cab.
