Default 4 pin trailer connector issue

I am not totally sure if this is true or not yet, but I just plugged in a 4 pin trailer into my truck and none of the lights came on. When I used a 7 pin adapter they work fine. I don't really know where to begin to look for the issue.

Also I was wondering if I had a tailgate bar and had that plugged into the 4 pin and also plugged a trailer into the 7 pin would they both have power and lights?

Thanks for the help guys.

They should both have power at the same time. They're spliced together back there.

That's what I thought. Seems odd, maybe I just have a poor connection there.

Maybe just a bad ground on the 4 pin?

Scuff up the metal connectors to make sure you're getting solid metal-metal contact. I've spent hours troubleshooting trailer connections just to find out the issue was with slight corrosion on the pins. They can look visibly fine and still not pass enough current.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was thinking of doing. My guess is just something isn't quite clean.
