You did not mention the mileage on the truck. O2 sensors can begin to fail without setting an engine code, but usually an owner begins to complain of lower gas mileage, and/or black sooty tailpipe conditions. This may be related to your engine stall condition, but your truck has two inboard (before the catalitic converter) O2 sensors, and two outboard (after the calalitic converter) O2 sensors. This will set you back almost $200.00 for the sensors alone, not including labor (unless you change them yourself), and there is no garrantee this is the fix to your problem.

Rather then throw new parts (and a strong chance of wasted money) at the truck, take it in and get it diagnosed, and fixed.

These sites are great for getting suggestions on symptoms, but its only a forum to share ideas, fixes, and opinions. When several different parts suggestions are offered, it's time to take the truck in. The chances are good that one of above mentioned suggestions is correct; it's a crap shoot for you though to guess as to which one(s) you are going to do, and spend your money on.

Just trying to save you money.

The mileage on the truck is about 74K.

the fuel filter change should be very cheap and it can be done at any quick lube place. i changed mine myself but its a little tricky getting the fittings off. im not sure how much o2 sensors cost or what kinda labor is involved.

Thank you. I am almost positive it is the fuel filter or fuel pump as the service engine light does not come on. If it did then bad sensors would be more likely. I will see about getting it changed and will post back if problem was resolved.

Fuel Pumps shouldnt just sorta work. They either work, or they dont. I would suggest fuel filter. Then just move on from there. I have see the newer F150's come in barely running and pop off, (then cuss) the fuel filter, and it was like a muddy river. Even though the temp is good, you will want to pressure check the coolant system. The smallest crack can cause all sorts of problems.

the first time i changed mine i couldnt believe how dirty it was. it didnt look anything like gas thats for sure. then a month later my truck started idling wierd again so i replaced it again. it was just as dirty as it was the first time i changed it, however it was the tp sensor that was causing the problems. about 4 months after that i had more problems (bucking at high rpm, low fuel rail pressure, rough idling), i thought maybe it was the filter again so this time i decided to drop the fuel tank and clean it out. it wasnt dirty but there was something (a half inch solid steel ball and broken plastic) that broke off of the sending unit inside the tank. i still checked the fuel filter again but it was clean as a whistle that time. i replaced the entire sending unit/ fuel pump assembly and havent had any problems since then.

Default engine stall /check engine lights

My 05 f-150 xlt 4/4 supercab with 5.4 was loosing power and would not go over 60mph. It was under warranty at the time. Idle was fine but it struggled to get to 60 mph. The check engine lite stayed on the whole time. I checked for all the obvious things that everyone on this forum says to check. I always run good fuel but I thought I would try a bottle of Heet. That didn't help so I took it to my Ford dealer. They changed the MAS,and the throttle pos. sensor, this is what their diagnostics said was wrong. I told them I had just changed the fuel filter after this problem started so they wouldn't change it. They called the next day and said my truck was fixed, come pick it up. When I picked it up I asked if they had road tested it. The service writer said" yes,we always do". Well guess what,I wrote down the milage when I dropped the truck off and when I looked at the milage when I picked it up ,they had not drove the truck 1/10 of a mile. I told the service writer to get in with me,I wanted to check the truck out before I left. I got out on the street, floored it after I was moving and it was still bad. Service writer had me pull back in the garage, got me another loaner and called the next day .The fuel pump was bad, they did get it fixed this time. I am glad it was under warranty,no problems since and I'm at 40,000 miles with no mo warranty. Now I'm worried about changing spark plugs,oh well.

Excellent advice PAPPAMIKE; I too request that the service manager goes with me for a short ride before I accept the vehicle when a dealership performs a repair. It's rare that I take a vehicle in for service; it's only when I cannot pinpoint a fault down to one, maybe two parts. I will not just "toss parts" onto the truck in hopes I fix it sooner or later; too expensive that way.

I have a 2010 F150 and had a couple instances where when stopping abruptly and turning left it would stall at the low RPM. When this happened the Fuel Gauge also stopped working correctly. Needed the Fuel Pump and a Gas pressure sensor replace $640.
