Default Changing vcts need advice

Orileys has dorman vcts about 130 each Amazon has ford ones for 40 each. Which one do I need? I would assume the ford ones are updated and are cheaper for my wallet. Also do I need anything other than the solenoids? Caps gaskets ect? It's an 05 so I can get them without removing my valve covers thanks

Get the Motorcraft ones. You'll need to replace the gasket also. Make sure you get the latest revision of the VCT'S.

I honestly don't know the mechanical differences between the two, but if the Dorman's are more than 3x more expensive, I'd stick with Motorcraft. Even the dealerships around here charge about $60 each for them. You'll have to remove the gasket to change them. When you remove them, most of the time they get destroyed. They're in there pretty tight. There are a few people on ebay that sell two VCT'S with two gaskets. Like this:

The latest motorcraft version has a check valve and a smaller drain exit. Search on here and you should be able to find a thread that shows pics of the differences and peoples results from switching to the new design. The majority experienced a reduction in noise if I remember correctly.
