changing plugs in 4.6 should i replace COP's to?
im getting ready to change the plugs on my 04 4.6 since she is at 97,000 and has a slight surge at low rps. i know that the 4.6 plugs dont break like the 5.4 but i have read that a lot of times the boots on the COP's break if your not carefull. is it a good idea to just go ahead and replace them while they will be off? what type should i buy and where? also i assume i should use nickle anti-sieze on the plugs? i have also read to put some kind of grease on the boots when replaced so the wont stick? Thanks in advanced

You don't have to replace them. If the boots break, you can get new boots. The grease is dielectric grease. Anti-seize on the threads is a good idea. Also, make sure to torque them to 13 lb. ft. To tight and when the cylinder head expands from the heat, they'll pull the threads and blow out.

Motorcraft COPs are the best. We've used the Napa brand and had good luck with them. You can buy anti-seize at parts stores and even hardware stores. If you use a lot of anti-seize, lower the torque you tighten them to. I usually just put a small dab on one spot.

Don't overuse the anti-sieze, use a small dab as rtg143 states at the base of the threads. As to COPS, I would not replace them unless they need it. IF it an't broke, don't fix it....

Any CEL's? If not just inspect the boots and if they are ok with no signs of arcing then just reinstall the COP's. Anti-seize,everyone said it best that a very small dab will do the job nicely.

so i changed the plugs today and everything went good. i used motorcraft platinum plugs which were already in there but i dont know if they had been changed before. but i didnt mess up any of the boots and toqured them down to 13 ft. lbs. took me about 2 hours to do.
