Is the CEL controlled by a fuse or relay in a 5.4l 05 f150 4x4?
Hello was wondering is the CEL is controlled by a fuse or relay? Bought truck from private dealer of Facebook sales and the guy said he hasn't messed with anything but don't belive him. I see no wires cut off anywhere and took of dashboard and all bulbs are good. Was planning on putting new spark plugs but it would be best to fix the CEL first so it can warn me if somthing needs attention afterwards. Code reader works and all but don't know when CEL turns on or off? Also It doesn't come on with key front engine off wich means they tampered with it before selling so buyer wouldn't worry bout anything. Anyone know if the CEL is controlled by a fuse or relay? It doesn't say directly on fuse box or booklet manual which one is for that. Any help would be appreciated

I think I missed this, but is it stuck on or just not coming on at all?

Yeah, it comes on when key is in the "on" position. Check for loose solder points by chance?

I think the CEL is a hard soldered in LED on the gauge cluster. Sometimes the solder points come loose.

What kinda' code reader are you using?
OBDII on that '05 has a bunch of data related to the CEL. For instance, the CEL light is 'monitored' for integrity and there is a flag for FAULT in the CEL circuit. And like if it is 'lit' right now, the distance traveled with CEL 'on', and how many run cycles have been logged since CEL has been cleared.

I am fairly sure it is against the law to sell a vehicle with a CEL that has been tampered with. I'd get it looked at and then report the seller. Or, ask for him to fix it, or you will report him.

Thanks guys.yeah they red it with the ones from o'reilly's and some other ones from different shops. None came up with codes for the CEL but one for below resolating temp .one for o2 sensor and one for camshaft sensor all tho no CEL was present at that time. Also the codes had been cleared before that at another 4x4 shop. I guess I'll just try to find a new cluster and try it before i buy it to see if CEL works with new one.
