Can I use new roller followers/rockers on my used camshafts??
 

I have a 2006 Ford F150 SCREW 4x4 5.4 3-valve.

I am about to replace the phasers, timing chains, guides, tensioners, oil pump etc.

I would like to know if it's OK to install all new roller followers/rockers onto the original camshafts. This is assuming that the camshafts and bearing caps pass inspection.

I'm asking because the roller followers are inexpensive ($100 USD), so why not replace them while the engines apart. Also there's always the chance of having some wear between a follower and it's roller.

I don't want to replace the camshafts unless they actually need replacing - Expensive @ $650.00+ CDN (TASCA + Shipping + Customs/Tax + Exchange Rate).

I replaced all roller followers and lash adjusters at 130k
 

Soak lash adjusters after priming them overnight . Hand oil cams on assembly . You will get some on manifold ,wipe up but she will still smoke some on start up. Of course you know all caps go back exactly as they came out .
I had no choice as my number 8 intake roller was thrown to the side when I opened it .
Some lash adjusters bad , I feel that's what damaged rollers .
I bought my set $265 at OEM select ebay . Now at 175km runs quiet .

Just did the entire timing phaser deal with new melling pump then added the 5 30 mobile one. I put all new lash adjusters in (sealed power) and had three rockers that were going bad. I replaced those also. After 4 grand runs swell with no noise and power like it was new. The benefits of on time oil changes and using syn were very apparent. Everything was clean as a whistle and minimum wear after 250k Did show indications that the stock pump was not getting oil up to phasers correctly but the new VCT valves and pump sure changed that.:thumbsup:

Do the lash adjusters while you're in there.


Don't argue, just do it. They're not that pricey.
