Default 2004 Shift Cable Issue

I have just replaced the shift cable for the second time in my 2004 XLT 5.4l because the sheath keeps melting just after the firewall on the exhaust. I have heard that there is some kind of spring that can be attached to pull it off the exhaust but cannot find one to fit or a source of supply. If anyone has an idea please let me know what I can do to keep this from happening again, otherwise I will be replacing it in another 3-4 years. Thanks in advance.

You may have to go to a dealer to see if there is a spring or something!
