Default Battery Dead, Keys Won't Work - How do I Charge?

So I am selling my friend's 2004 SuperCrew FX4 because he left for the Peace Corps last month and will be gone for the next 27 months.

I jumped it off (battery dead from his mom not touching it for a month) and drove it 40 minutes home. After 5 minutes of being off, I started it again to make sure the battery had a charge and then went to bed. This morning it was dead, the keyless entry didn't work, and the ignition key doesn't work in the only door with a keyhole.

I'm thinking I need to charge the battery somehow without popping the hood (unless you know how I can easily pop it from the outside) and assume I can find the starter and ground the other cable to the frame to charge it. Will that work?

If so, can anyone tell me what to look for or post a picture from the underside of the truck of how I can find the starter?

I really appreciate and would like to say that this forum seems pretty legit.

Thanks,

Scarblah

That sucks. You'd think the ignition key would work in the door. Any reasons this wouldn't be the case?

I may be wrong but if you put juice to the starter wouldn't the starter start turning? It wouldn't start without the key tho. I may be wrong tgo. I'm interested to find out the answr to this.

4 gauge red cable goes straight back to the battery +. Hopefully right after you connect, you'll be able to use the keyless to open.

No, the starter solenoid is inside the starter on our trucks.

Thanks for the info Gator...Which side of the bay is it on? Will i need to access from underneath or through a wheel well? I am still at work but will give it a go when I get home.

Thanks again,

Scarblah

IOT sell the truck, he should have given you a power of attorney in order to do so. You should be able to take that to the dealer with the title or registration. With that, they should be able to cut you a key to work in the door. Sorry, but I am just not comfortable telling you how to hotwire a starter on the internet, especially since you just joined.
