If he installed Motorcraft phasers they should be updated and not have the issue return, If he used Dorman, dont even bother buying it. They will go bad, probably within 10K miles.

From what I've read, it sounds like just replacing bad phasers does not correct the issue. Is this not the case? What's updated on new phasers that prevents the issue from returning? Thanks for the feedback!

Depends, if they used cheap parts (Dorman, etc) then most likely the phasers will be an issue. If they used Motorcraft updated parts, and it is kept well maintained then odds are you wont see a problem. Neither one of those answers is a for sure thing.

Basically what Summers said I guess I never went to the last page LOL

haha, alright thanks! Nice to know that the second truck and swapping a TrueTrac for the open diff it has is a viable option.

Dammit... just talked to the dealer with the second truck and he said they used Dorman phasers when they replaced the chain, guide, and phasers. Oh well. :/

I'm not disputing anything that has been said by any means. My truck sounds the same cold, hot or anything in between. Maybe I'm just lucky?

Same here. My 06 5.4 has 204,000 miles and runs perfectly. I consider myself lucky

It's only 1.5 hrs away, why not just go drive it? Sounds like it's what your looking for. Go take it for a half hr drive on the hwy and listen to it, that will give you your answer.
