Cam phaser noise or no?

Here you go. No cracks about the engine being dirty either. It's been exceptionally maintained other than cleaning. I've never heard that it was good to do so.

Thanks for taking the time to make that video! That does sound pretty much the same as the video I posted. Good to hear from people who have gone over 200k on these engines without major issues. Who cares if it's pretty as long as it works?

I tell you it runs and drives like new. I even recently had oil pressure checked for a piece of mind. It passed with flying colors. I really do hate to trade it next year. Best of luck with your decision.

The videos really dont sound bad. If you have ever heard a 5.4 with bad phasers trust me you'll know! These engines just make a lot of noise, definitely dont have the classic v8 burble!

Did the dealer drive it enough to get it fully warmed up? Mine you have to drive it for about 30 minutes to get the phaser noise to show up. Its great the dealer is sending you the videos and from the videos I think if you like it go check it out. Bu take it for a nice long test drive make sure its plenty warm and listen at idle. One of the dealers I went to kept reving the engine while I was trying to listen for the phasers. I don't know if he knew it had the phaser problem or didn't know how to check for it. I showed him the phaser sound and he completely denied it. Best advice is to do your research and go drive the crap out of it to check it out.

Yep, I test drove a 07 Expedition a few years ago and the dealer told me not to go past a certain stoplight. I called them out on it (I asked if they knew of any phaser problems on it) they said no, not on this one, and after listening to it idle, they kept asking if I was going to take it for a test drive or not. I said after it gets nice an warm I will. Got to the stoplight and kept going, came back 10 minutes later and the phasers sounded horrible. They asked how I liked it and I told them its not nice to try and screw people over. Handed them the keys and walked out.

Another question... There's another truck I'm looking at that's got similar miles and the same options. The dealer said it's had coils, plugs, and phasers changed at his dealership. My main hangup on that truck is that it has an open rear differential.
If the phasers were changed because it had phaser noise, is it likely that that particular engine is going to be prone to the phaser noise coming back?
What I was thinking with that truck was, if the phasers are going to be good, I could just get a TrueTrac installed. If the new phasers are just going to develop problems like the old ones, though, then that plan doesn't make sense.
