But THIS is a Phaser issue (From what I was told by a few users). On my old 09 5.4 F150. I did not keep the truck very long after I posted that video as I was to scared it was going to blow a hole in my wallet. But none the less definitely something you should watch out for. I went up to a local mechanic shop and said it could be anything from Phasers to Timing to Solenoids.. But Like I said I didn't want to take the risk and find out.

That is a very bad phaser knock. That truck was ready for a timing job. Some of the phaser noises are substantially less noticeable.

Necro posting because I still haven't bought a truck...

I just recently started looking in earnest again. I'm currently looking at an 06 King Ranch and got a video from the dealer this morning. I confirmed that the truck was running for around 30 minutes before the video was taken, so this is hot idle.

Any opinions on whether or not it's making phaser noise?

Phaser knock is tough to hear in a video unless its real bad. I cant say for sure but to me that just sounds like noisy injectors which is perfectly normal. Again tough to hear in a video due to the noisy injectors so I cant say for sure but it does sound pretty clean to me.

Dude, you still haven't bought a truck? And I just read all 11 pages expecting to hear the happy ending...

Off topic but out of curiosity, you said you have a wife. How long did that take?

lmao sorry there's no happy ending...yet! I'll find one eventually! Everybody at work teases me about how I've been truck shopping for 5+ months. Lol it was 3 years for the wife, but the first year was me chasing her when she wasn't interested... so I'm persistent!

Truck was running for >30 minutes, so nice, hot idle. Just sounds like injectors to me. Any opinions?

You realize that even if you buy a truck that doesn't have phaser noise, it could at any time, right? Get one that's in great shape and if you have to do phasers, then have them done. Seems like you are stuck on phasers and letting that decide your truck purchase.

these trucks do drip oil after a change of the filter because of the beautiful ford design of the filter drip tray. No matter how well you think you cleaned up you never get it all and it drips for a day or two, at least mine does. Just keep it in mind, not saying it is always the cause of the drip
