Default Cam codes

Hi folks, new member here somewhat new to the Ford world. I drive a 2020 Ranger for work that I don't touch. But I have worked on and rebuilt a number of engines.

A friend of mine recently picked up a 2005 F150 with a check engine light. Auto Zone read the codes and sold her a pair of variable valve timing solenoids.

I then read the codes. They were all for bank 2. I put the bank 1 cam sensor in bank 2, and vice versa. I cleared the codes and told her to contact me when the check engine light returns.

The light came on a day later with codes 340, 344, and 345. What am I looking at, and what's the next step? Is there an FSM around that I can refer to, to check sensor resistance?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Why do you want to "shoot the messenger"?. (or Capture Paul Revere and interrogate him if he REALLY saw the British coming). The sensor resistance is fine. It only consists of a coil of wire around an iron core and the PCM reports a distinct code when the circuit is OPEN (P0340 which you got probably by unplugging the Bank 1 Sensor). P0344 and P0345 says they are both working. They are reporting the mechanical problem they are designed to monitor and report. The sensors do not 'see' the Cam Phasors in the proper position (locked at Base zero retard) during cranking / early starting. These codes are 'sticky'. (Once set - DTC stays on until two or three drive cycles without re-occurrence).

That is probably because the internal locking pins are worn and not locking the phasers, OR Phasers were NOT fully advanced at last engine shutdown (not in proper position), OR engine oil pressure is weak and unable to operate the phasers well ---- etc etc. What is the mileage and service history on the truck. It may be nearing the time when it needs a timing chain / phaser replacement job.
