I have a 2005 F150 4x4 Lariat with a 5.4 and a standard transmission (no LS). Recently, my wife and I have heard a clunk sound underneath the truck when turning left; but not turning to the right.

I tend to be able to duplicate the clunk when going 10-15 mph. This can be duplicated by gliding around a corner at this speed or accelerating from a stop sign and turning left.

our driveway also has a lip from the street to the driveway itself. It seems that the clunk can be heard while going over this lip as well.

It sounds like the clunk is either in the rear end or underneath; I don't believe it is in front, but not 100% sure either.

I have been unable to duplicate this clunk while turning right. I would assume that helps in the analysis, but not sure.

Any pointers in what is going on? Suspension component?

I am hopeful it is not transmission related.

OK, another sound going on with my truck. My driveway meets the street with a smooth curb and provides a small bump to the suspension as the truck has to go over this gentle curb into the driveway which goes up hill. When I turn into the driveway the left wheel hits first. When it does there is a noticeable clunk and then when the right front wheel hits, there is another noticeable clunk. It sounds like something is moving abnormally in the suspension. This is different then our 2nd vehicle, which doesn't have the "movement feel. It happens basically every time now and wasn't noticeable last year.

What parts could be worn? Why would it do this. I assume this is not normal and points to worn suspension parts. True?

check your ball joints. tie rod ends, stabilizer bar. or go to your local alligmment shop to get it check . good luck

I had a dealership tech check everything out you mentioned above for 30 minutes of labor; found nothing wrong or worn. Perhaps this time I will take it to a neighborhood auto shop and see if they can spend more time actually reviewing and finding the problem.

I have the same issue. Any time i flex the driver front tire i hear a pop and it seems to be worse in 4wd than 2. I have checked all the ball joints and tie rod ends and they are all good. Next thing is I am going to check is the sway bar links but they look and feel tight at first glance. I would say cv axles just because it does it worse in 4wd but there is a limited amount left it could be. I have a 6" fab tech lift if that helps. I'll repost if/when I figure it out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have same thing with passenger front tire wen it flexes. Very noticeable clunk. 6 in rough country. Can't find anything loose and don't see how it could be cv axle shaft. Confused

Wait i no this is off topic but how do you have a standard tranny? I thought they were all automatics with the 5.4?

This may or may not be it, but I noticed this on mine and determined it was my hitch ball mount clanking when I hit the curb going into my work parking lot. If I go like 1mph I don't hear it but at 5+mph I do. If I take it off no noise.....regardless of speed.

Not to thread hijack but I am interested as well. I a hearing it come from the rear. And I don't have my hitch ball in either. Anyone have any ideas?? B

mn_f150 - Check your Sway bar end link bushings. Rock your truck side to side from grabbing your driver or passenger side fender well and rocking it from side to side..

Disturbed - Check your leaf spring bushings. Jump on your tail gate and bounce and see if the rear bushings on the rear leaf spring mount are bad.... You will hear a clunk or pop sound
