Default Caliper mishaps

(2005 5.4 4x4 101k) .....I lately I have been having brake issues like no other. 6 months ago my passenger rear caliper locked up and I had it replaced by ford..now 6 months after that last Saturday my driver side rear caliper locked up..I replaced it and off I went. Now yesterday exactly a week after I replaced the driver side rear caliper my drivers side front caliper locks up. And yet again I replaced it. Now can anyone explain to me why my brakes are randomly doing this. The only factory caliper on truck right now is the passenger front. It's just odd they are all of a sudden failing.

I had the same issue, and the only real answer I came up with is that they're just sh!tty calipers. The piston is that phenolic ceramic crap and not steel like it (in my humble opinion) should be. I'm to the point where I'm going to shell out the money for some REAL calipers and have them put on.

could be lack of proper maintenance... the brake system requires a periodic fluid swap to prevent moisture in the system .. moisture in the system will cause calipers to corrode and become sticky.

It could also be caused by issues with the phenolic pucks in the calipers as mentioned above.

I found out the hard way that you have to be incredibly careful with the calipers when changing pads, otherwise you will wind up with cascading failures. If this happened after a pad change, I'd be willing to bet you cracked the pistons without even realizing you had done so.
