I have the magnaflow 18" I think and it has no sound to me. I going to change it to a flowmaster 40 series delta flow. Ive used 40 series flowmaster on my other f150s and they sounded good

Removing the catalytic converter is illegal in the US and also in Canada. No, you don't have to remove it to put on a different muffler.

Exhaust comes from then engine through the mainfolds/headers, then goes through the Catalytic Converter(s), then through the muffler, then out of the end of the pipe. The muffler is the last process in the exhaust system. That's all you need to change. It is illegal to completely remove the cats (short term used for catalyic converter) and will give you a check engine light. You can replace the cats with a high flow version, but 90% of people with aftermarket exhaust work don't even mess with them. Some popular muffler brands are Flowmaster, Magnaflow, MBRP, Borla, Dynomax, and there's a Roush made one.

Just for reference, a 2004 and most 2005's have 4 catalytic converters, 2 on each side, whereas a 2006+ has only 2, one on each side.

Umm ...hate to be picky but, the muffler is not the last process in the system...there's a tail pipe and a Tip....

Flow master is more high pitched poppy sound not a whole lot of performance so I've been told and magnaflow is more for a deep throaty sound and more performance which I prefer and have on my truck if you want just straight LOUD pipes you would have to take out your muffler and have what they call straights and true dual straights are the loudest but take away a lot of performance and aren't too good for engine and I would not recommend taking off the cats at all you could put high flow cats which I've heard will make your truck louder and have a little performance gains as well
I have magnaflow true duals with 3.5/22" tips straight out the back and I don't remember mufflers size and they not even broken in and I've gotten a lot of compliments and can definitely feel performance gains from my flow master single that came with the truck
