Default Almost traded the F150 (Long story)

Took my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation today and almost walked out with an F250 Super Duty. The salesman had me go over my truck with him and list out all the mods so he could get me top dollar for my truck. So when we sat down and he showed me what they were going to give me I said "I thought you were going to give me top dollar for my truck" the price on the sales sheet for my truck was $22K. I told him that was a deal killer because there was no way I was going to let my truck go for $22k. So he wrote down $23K and I said nope, then he asked if he could give me $25K for my truck and I said no. He asked what I wanted and I said pay it off and I'll eat the price of the mods (close to $7K). He wrote down $27K and said he'd get me that. Another guy comes out and starts working on me, says he can only get the payment down to $699, I told him if that was the lowest he could do then we were done and I thanked him for his time. He said hold on and he walked away. Comes out a couple of minutes later and says he can get it down to $600 and has me sign a paper saying I would buy the truck today.

Salesman keeps coming up to me and says that the sales manager is working on someone else right now and I'll be up next. About 1 1/2 hours later he comes to me and says he got everything done and got me the deal for the monthly payment I told him I would accept. So I sit down with the finance guy and he spins his screen around and shows me the numbers and not only is the payment about $150 over what I said I would accept, but I see they're only giving me $23,500 for my truck. Told the guy sorry, but I had already said I wasn't goign to accept such a small amount for my truck and that that was not the payment I was led to believe I was getting. He said he could try to get me an 84 month term and I said thanks, but I'm not paying on a truck for 7 years. So he walks out and the guy who had me sign the piece of paper walks in and says what if you go for a lower priced truck. I told him the one thing I didn't want to do is sacrifice what I really want just to get into a new truck. I didn't need a new truck and wasn't willing to buy somethign just to buy something. He said he understood and wanted to know what he could do to get me in that truck today. I said pay off my truck, don't apply anything to the new loan and give it to me for the payment that you said you were going to give it to me for.

Well to wrap this up I felt like I got the run around for about 3 hours while they tried to work something out and they weren't straight with me from the beginning. That's alright though, I still have my F150 and don't have a higher payment that would have come with getting the F250. It sure was a nice truck though.

Damn you should have sold the truck and let me buy some of those mods of yours.

What was the truck, besides just being a superduty?

reminds me of my friend when he went to get his f350...apparently they are selling them 5k over invoice because everyone wants them, and they did the same thing to him at 4 dealers, that they did to you...ended up going back to maroone because i found him an 07 king ranch 350 for 39 (as posted in another thread of fl. ford dealers) and they had originally tried selling him that one for 45k, and then i found it on an "internet special" for 39, so they had to honor the price...thats all you have to do, go to their web sites, get their internet specials, and go with those, they can't back down on those prices, and if the truck is about 40ishK then u can get a lil less than 600/month i think...

That sucks man. Why do they make us sign a sheet that says that we WILL buy the truck if they do what they say?? I had to sign like 5 different sheets of the same thing because they wouldn't come down on the price. I finally told them that I was walking out if they wouldn't work with me and that got me exactly what I wanted.

Oh and like mentioned before, what style was the F250???

The F250 was the diesel Lariat model, pretty much fully loaded. It was a very nice truck, but I emphasize TRUCK. I may go to the website and take a look as 06150lariat suggested. The salesman actually just called me again and was trying to sell me again talking about how the diesels hold their value and I could probably trade it in a couple of years and have no negative equity if the payment was a concern. I told him no that wasn't a concern, but the amount of the payment and the amount that I was getting for my truck were my concerns.

I have to go back out there this afternoon and pay for my oil change/tire rotation from yesterday so I'm sure they'll see me and try yet again to get me into the truck. Maybe I'll be equipped from info from their website that shows a lower price for the truck.

So they let you wait to pay for the oil change?? Yep sounds like they're doing what they can to sell you a new truck. Those SD F250's are pretty sweet though!!!!

It probably isn't going to happen because they won't give me what I want for my truck. I checked KBB and they're giving me more than trade-in value, but I refuse to take a bath on the mods. I know you usually don't get paid by the dealership on trade-in for mods, but if they really want to sell the truck they'll give me what I want. Not like I need their truck.

Or you could part out your truck and do a little bit better than trading it is as it is now.

I got dibs on the Westin, AF1, and the Troyer Tunes.
