It does bolt on in place of the tow hooks, but it's not strong enough to support the weight of your truck or anyone else's truck. For those that are mudders and may need to be towed out from time to time they should definitely leave their tow hooks in place. For those of us that just want a nice looking rig and don't take them out and do any serious offroading, we can get away with removing the tow hooks because they serve no purpose.
