Broken Coil Spring question...

Hi-

I've got a broken coil spring, front right side...

Do I have to change both front springs, or just the boken one? And should I use the OEM spring, or a jobber for half the price?
(I'll probably keep the truch for another 2-3 years)

Thanks!

I would do both...that way it will set even in the front... you may be able to find a used one at a wrecking yard and your truck will still set even.

do em both.

i dont even think you can buy coils separately.

my buddy bought some for his 97 f150 and only changed the drivers side coil. drivers side sat about 2"higher than the passenger side. replaced the other one the next day.

i doubt your truck will see a 2" increase but its possible to see some height difference between the worn spring and the new one.

I had the same thing happen to mine, except on the left side. Since mine is an 06 with original struts and 95k miles, I replaced struts and springs as an assembly. But if your just replacing springs, I would replace both.

Thanks guys... That's what I thought, not sure why the garage would have recommended doing just the one side.

You could at a junkyard...and it may been worn the same as his good one..

thats one thing i would buy from a junk yard, personally.

only type of springs i would get from a junk yard would be a leaf spring pack. even then you dont know if the springs have been overloaded.

How do you overload front springs ???

Do them both. I had one break and before I could complete the repair the other one broke from the added stress I think. I bought aftermarket ones not OEM. Truck rides fine. For me it was a budget deal. I bought what I could afford. While I had it apart I did the ball joints also. They are cheap enough and since the hubs and axles were out it made sense to replace them with the MOOG joints.
