Busted E Brake Blessing in disguise?
Last week my E Brake fell apart while I was driving and destroyed the entire backing plate, so today I went to replace everything and realized the axles have to come out in order to remove the back plate. I really didn't want to drain the rear diff since I just it changed over the summer with $20/quart Royal Purple but told myself I was just giving my truck a "treat" lol. Well I drained the fluid and took off the cover and to my surprise a "treat" from my truck to me laying at the bottom of the housing right next to the ring!
I have no idea when it broke, haven't heard any noises, felt any vibrations, nothing! I inspected all the gears, teeth, ect and somehow everything is good! Luckily it broke off only about 1.5" on the opposite end of the bolt so there was still enough left to pass through the spider gears and hold them in place.
WOW is all I can say.....

I did buy a powerball ticket on my way home from Montana last week..... Didn't win the 80 million jackpot but this outcome will do just fine for me haha

I wonder if the e-brake failure was because the broken cross pin allowed the axle to move inward and the shoes drug in the backside of the disc ?

No the little hook/tab that the cable hooks on to was slightly bent, and has been for some time now, and when I was pulling my buddy out of the mountains in 2 ft of snow I put the e brake on while I stopped on a steep hill and when I released the brake, I guess it didn't release all the way and I didn't didn't and I was trying to reverse in 4wd so it just kept trying to adjust it and finally I heard a loud snap! When I got home I noticed the bracket busted off but I just assumed it was lost in the snow, didn't think there was any chance it fell back inside just sitting there hiding in the rotor/drum plotting it's revenge haha
