Brief Loss of Acceleration--Fluke Or Something Wrong!

This morning after dropping my wife off to work, I stopped at an intersection. When I went to pull onto the next road I had absolutely no acceleration. The truck was just moving at idle speed. The service engine light came on as well. So I pulled onto the shoulder and turned the engine off. A few minutes later, I started it back up and it started up rough but everything worked fine. No service engine light.

What the hell just happened? Should I be worried? It can't be the battery since I had it replaced a couple of months ago. Was it just a fluke?

What are the specs of your truck? Year etc.

Sorry,

2006 F150 RWD 5.4L FLEX FUEL stock everything.

No takers? Basically, I pressed on the gas and nothing happened. The truck just coasted as if I took my foot off of the brake. The service engine light came on. I then pulled off the side of the road, put on my blinkers and shut off the engine. When I started it back up, everything was fine.

Does it sound like an engine fluke or a possible transmission issue? Truck has 41k miles on it and I bought it new.

Was it the check engine light or the safe mode indicator? Either way, it might just be fluke. Is your warranty up yet??

Arsynic 12-08-2008 01:44 PM

Yup. It's a 3 year 36,000 mile one. The light was the little orange wrench.

The wrench is the safe mode indicator. You have the option of taking to the dealership but they will charge you. You could would wait to see if there is another occurance unless you can spare the $$. I personally would have it looked at, I would not want a loss of power while pulling into traffic.

Have someone scan it for codes and let us know what it is. This will help in determining the cause. Autozone usually does this for free.

Well, it didn't happen for the rest of the day. It started up fine and ran fine all of yesterday.

SinCityFX4 12-09-2008 10:05 AM

You can still take it to autozone, it is free and relatively quick. They will print it out for you too.
