I could be completely wrong. On older vehicles, the brake light coming on was an indicator for a problem with the vaccum system on the fuel system. That would explain the sluggish feeling. Check your vaccum lines under the hood.
Like I said, this could be completely off the mark but won't hurt to check. I also am NOT a mechanic.
Hope this helps.

Your parking brake is stuck on. There Is a little lever that the cable hooks to that connects to the pads. They are good for seizing up. Take the rotors off unhook the cable and pull them out. Clean them up and put some grease on them. Should fix your problem. My dads f150 had this poblem as well. Never have figured out why that makes the brake indicator light come on though.

I too have had the problem of the truck shaking sometimes, and now the on-dash brake indicator light has come on and stays on. Although I haven't checked yet due to cold weather, the shaking happens only after the parking brake has been applied when parked. After releasing the parking break and driving away, the shaking comes on. I think the cable/brake shoe mechanism need lubricating because I think the parking brake shoe is staying stuck (not retracting when released) and causing the shaking and dragging. As for the brake indicator light, it just came on for me yesterday and don't know why. I'll check the fluid level. Barring that, the brake switch will be the other option. I'll keep looking here for other suggestions.

2004 F150 Parking Brake Light on Dash stays on or flashes
Parking brake dash light keeps going on and off. Checked master cylinder fluid level and parking brake switch thye were fine. Problem was a loose connection on the instrument cluster. When I wiggled the top right connection (there are two large connections on the top of the cluster) I was able to wire use a wire tie to tighten the connection. Problem solved for the cost of a wire tie!! The instrument cluster was easy to get too---if you search on YouTube you will find a video that shows you how to access the cluster. Very easy. Reapir took less than 5 minutes.

That is only a temporary fix, it will still get worse. To completely fix it you will need to open the cluster and resolder the resistors near that plug.

Mine did this but it was a relay box or something along thise line located on the brake pedal bar follow it up towards the fire way there's a box on it. The contacts get worn I duck tapped it up real tight problem solved

Yes, I found my problem. The button on the brake switch is made of rubber. Because it had been compressed so many times, it became "squashed" and no longer had enough height to contact the pedal when the pedal was depressed. I simply squeezed the button until it got big/long enough again, and that solved it. No more brake light on when driving.
