Default Brake Controller?

It has been a while since I have installed a brake controller so technology has probably advanced, to say the least. What brands and models are good? Install/price/dependability? 05 STX so if you have done one let me know any tips you may want to share. I saw a wiring harness on JC Whitney that was vehicle specific and it was under $10, seemed like a decent deal. I just want a simple control, will only be towing a 16' trailer with a couple of ATVs now and then.

What about the trailer, does it even have brakes on it??? Some of those smaller trailers are rated below the weight requirements and have no brakes so a controller is not going to be needed...

Yes, it definitely has brakes and it is 16 not 12 like I listed above. Plus I am pulling up and down the mountain so brakes would be advisable.

if your truck has the tow package it will be easy. if not you'll have to pull the wires yourself. as for controllers reese or hoppe are good.

Is there an easy way of telling if there is a tow package? I do have the 4 wire flat plug factory mounted on the back bumper.

I just installed a hitch and have the factory 4 wire and yes I do have a tranny cooler. I was just trying to find out if it will just be a plug and play thing or if I have to splice and dice to get it done???? And what type of controller people had the best luck with as far as install.
