My humble opinion is use 5w20 and a Ford or WIX filter. I'd change it religiously every 3000 miles as well. I have a 2006 5.4 and the dealer offered free oil changes for life. I'm on their doorstep every 3000 miles. They use Ford 5w20 and Ford Filters. I hope to get 100.000 plus out of my truck.

if he used the german castrol synthetic, that is an amazing oil. You can get it locally. you just have to check to see if it is, indeed, the german variant. I feel mobil 1 is of great quality also and use it in all my cars. Use a good quality oil filter. K&N makes an extremely good quality oil filter, along with mobil 1. The advantage to K&N oil filter is that it also has the 1" nut adapter on the end of the filter making it easy to stick a socket and extension on the filter to tighten and to loosen. Stay with paper air filters. Unless you are really working on some great performance mods, I dont see the need to go with K&N's air filter. reusable? Yes. Air filtration quality will suffer, though. Causing your oil to get dirty faster and the need for more frequent oil changes. If you use all the above, shouldnt really have a need to change your oil for anything under 5k miles. Use good judgement though, driving habits and locations (frequent off roading) might dictate a little sooner. I also stick with 5w20 for this truck. But Mobil 1 has a tendency to run a bit thin compared to others, so a 10w30 would be perfectly fine.

FYI- If the guy didnt use synthetics before you, some people worry that the detergents in the synthetic would break free grime from conventional oil and block passageways to bearings... I still switched to synthetics on my higher mileage truck after the guy before me used conventional (dino) oil with no problems. Just throwing that tid bit out there though. If you decide to stay conventional, still use a good brand, like mobil 1 and a good filter. just do changes a little more frequently than you would with synthetics.

Motorcraft 5W20 Semi-Synthetic is good oil, and not nearly as expensive as the $7 a quart Castrol 0W30. No reason to get that oil if you dont plan on running it 10k between changes.

If you still need more answers, do a search. This topic comes up at least once a month on this (and many other car/truck forums). You can read for hours!

Bottom line; conventional oil if you plan to change oil every 3K. Switching to synthetic and changing every 3K is wasting money. Your Ford came from the factory with semi-synthetic; Great oil. It will take you well beyond the 100K you are wanting. I have a friend who absolutly abuses his Ford truck. He's a roofer by trade. He changes the oil in his truck when the moon turns blue. He currently has over 200K, so I have no argument with him as to changing his oil more frequently!
