Blown Fuse
 

I was driving my new to me 04 last night at about 70 mph when I hit a big pothole on the interstate. I lost my cluster backlighting and A/C controls backlighting. I got out there this morning and found fuse #6 (15A) blown. I replaced the fuse and when I turn on the ignition the fuse blows instantly (twice). Any ideas what may have happened? Thanks in advance.

I got out there this evening and tried a few things. With the headlights in auto the fuse blows instantly when the ignition is turned on. If the headlights are in the off position it doesn't blow until I turn the switch to auto, park lights or on. Does this indicate a problem with the switch? If not where should I look next?

Today I disconnected the parking lights. Everything else worked and no blown fuse. I reconnect the parking light and fuse blows. Then I disconnected the parking lights again and fuse still blows. The dash lights and tail lights come on for about a split second right before the fuse blows. Anyone?

shorted wired somewhere. Check behind your radio.

u have short in your parking light circuit. time to start tracing wires. but atleast you narrowed it down pretty far

Hey doctorgoo, what did you do to figure out it was a light socket? And what did you do to fix it??

Spoke too soon. Everything seemed ok until the first bump in the road this morning. It will have to wait until the weekend. I work long hours and have 4 kids so not much time to troubleshoot during the week. I just tried a couple of quick things in the driveway after work the past few days. I pulled the socket out to check the bulb and it was apparently jarred loose. Snapping the bulb in securely seemed to have done the trick as I cycled the switch several times in the driveway. I'll have to try and trace it down Saturday. It's dark when I leave in the morning and close to it when I come home from work. That's why the no dash/tail light thing is really bugging me.
