Best way to moderately increase the power of the 4.6?

Sorry I tried to help. When it comes to trucks I dont know much, especially about underpowered 4.6's. I will stick with recommendations for the 5.4 from now on.
The problem with 75% of people on this forum is they perform mods over maintenance, which makes no sense.
Sorry for the loss of your father.

A Gotts mod is not going to make your truck improve the issue on your complaint of it being sluggish right now. Won't hurt, but its not going to wake up a severe sluggish truck as you describe.
Something is wrong with it. Is it a 2 valve 4.6, or a 3 valve?
While my 4.6 is in no way within the range of performance of a 5.4, it does have no problem accelerating throughout its RPM power band, and I have plenty of confidence with it getting on and off a highway, cruising at speed, and passing when required. I also tow a 6200 pound camper with it, and it works well with that.
I have an Edge tuner, but am only running the 87 octane tow tune, which firms the shift points; no change to its timing or fuel mapping.
Adding any performance mods to your 4.6 right now without identifying and correcting its problem would be like putting lipstick on a pig; it's still going to be a pig.

Kbreese, I don't think anyone was trying to offend you, but unfortunately, it seems to be an issue. People will mod and mod, but complain whenever their motor seizes due to lack of oil lol. I don't know if anything is wrong with it, because I've honestly never driven a 4.6. My 5.4 is a slug in low gears, but I also do not have it tuned. I think as long as maintenance is done and you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is mechanically solid, I would try a tuner. Oh, and speaking from experience, stock intake is just fine. I honestly don't know why I haven't tuned mine yet, haha.

Okay, that solves that.
I should also add that my 2007 4.6 has 131K on its odometer. I bought used at 101K, and it was running great then. As far as maintenance, sure, it gets that; and from what I can tell, it has had one COPS changed (not during my ownership).
I wish we were close by so I could let you drive mine and vice versa; this way we could verify that we are on the same page as how these 4.6's perform.
Maybe you can find another 2004 to 2008 F-150 with this engine (a friend, or a dealership) to drive, and see if its the same performance wise, as yours. Maybe your definition of performance and sluggishness is different from mine; I just don't see my 4.6 as sluggish at all. Not as quick as a 5.4 I'm sure, but certainly not sluggish.

My truck is a 2006 4.6L with 110K
As far as I can tell it's had one new COP that doesn't match the others.
I've had all spark plugs out but the rear two, and they all looked newer, I may change them again, just to be sure.
I've changed fuel filter
I should do air filter, and clean throttle body, I've cleaned the mass air flow sensor.
it has newer anti freeze,
Anything else I should really be thinking of doing? As far as Maintence before mods are concerned.

Cycle For Fun and Health
Check the FPDM for corrosion. It's above the spare tire. Even if the frame does not have rust or you do not drive on salted roads, the FPDM may be corroded as the aluminum body mounted on the steel frame is susceptible to electrolysis. Remove the 2 bolts and check for cracks or corrosion.

It might just be a difference in perspectives.
For the record, the Accord I mentioned is a 2015 Accord Sport, I think it has like 200 hp, and its a pretty light car. It accelerates effortlessly. My truck accelerates effortFULLY, lol.
I'm also used to my Mustang which is a beast, and before that I had a corvette Z06 which was even more of a beast, etc etc.
Even at a light today, a Prius outpaced me pretty easily. Granted, I was only like 70% throttle and it sounded like he was really into it, but I honestly think this truck is one of the slowest vehicles on the road. And for the record I had less than 1/4 tank of gas with zero cargo.
It seems like flooring it is almost useless, like past a certain rpm it just doesn't want to push any more. The truck wants to go at a turtle pace, and if you try and push it, its like making noise, but barely moving any faster. And the tranny is definitely fine, so don't think it's that.
Also, remember I haven't owned a truck in over 20 years. I am used to sports and muscle cars. But still, I try to put things in perspective. That's why I say the Accord accelerates easily, but not compared to my mustang of course. I still know it's all relative.
Anyhow, I'll probably just live with the way it is, but I'll look into the Grotts thing...
