Default hesitation shifting into 4wd

I have a 2005 5.4 engine F150. The truck has an electric shifter and usually shifts into 4wd immediately. Lately, there has been a hesitation both going into 4 wd and coming out of 4 wd. Anybody have any ideas?

Default hesitation reply

Thanks for replying. It was a cold icy morning. I started the truck and moved it into 4wd. It hesitated for less than a minute and then eventually engaged. After I was out of the driveway, the switch back was delayed less than a minute, but eventually clicked in.
