Default Battery not charging (code p0622)

Hey everyone,

A couple days back after having boosted another vehicle my battery will no longer charge. I am getting the message "service battery charging system" on the dash and am getting an error code p0622 (Generator Field Control Circuit) on my code reader.

I figured that It was a faulty alternator so I replaced it but that did nothing to solve the problem.

I tested the connection between the positive terminal of the battery to the main connection of the alternator with my multimeter. Showed no resistance so that means the the inline fuses should be fine correct?

I also had the battery tested and its fine. Less than a year old anyways.

What else should I be looking for now? Did I fry my pcm/ecm when I boosted the other vehicle? How can I make sure that its not just a fusible link somewhere?

Thanks!

Have you tried another battery?

Or, it could be as simple as dirty terminals on the battery and they clamps. Have you cleaned them?

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I had the battery tested and it's good. The terminal connections are clean and solid.

Are you getting proper charging voltage? Like 14.4 V? If you're getting 14.4V at the battery and it's still losing charge it may be bad. Have you also checked for a parasitic draw as well to verify it's not getting drained while the truck is off?

The batteries voltage when running is not in the 14's. Last I checked it was 11 then the truck died about 5 minutes after that. So the alternator is defeiently even attempting to charge the battery.

Can't really check for voltage drain when its off because the battery is always dead after just a few minutes of running.

Make sure you have good connector plug on alternator as it is easily damaged and inline fuses on your battery cables. You have blown one of them and you need to test them separately.

If the voltage at the battery is only 11 VDC with the motor running the Alt is not putting out... either a bad connection like stated above or a bad Alt.

So I had the alternator tested and its good. Tested all the connections between the battery and the alternator and they all are good.

Getting extremely worried now that is the PCM. Does anyone have any experience ordering a PCM off of ebay? Like this one for example?

Try grounding the frame /metal of the alternator with a jumper cable to the frame of the truck. Odds are you cooked the ground jumping. The ECU's can cut charging voltages for better gas mileage. Check your plugs at it. A hec test and navigation of its capabilities may help you before a trip to the dealer. But charge your battery up first. This is usually 1 of 2 fuse links blown since you jump started someone.
