Default Battery Light with High Voltage

I have a 2006 F 150 with an intermittent battery light, high voltage reading and whining noise all happening at the same time. Noise stops abruptly, battery light goes out and gauge back to normal.

Sounds like a bad alternator.

Agree with Trucker.. our trucks are notorious for bad voltage regulators ...

What brand? New or rebuilt? There are lots of posts here about issues with bad or wrong alts installed and poor performance or longevity. Buy the right reman Motorcraft and get on down the road.

Not sure when Ford started the 2 year warranty on parts, so maybe at least if you have to buy again from Ford, it will have a 2 year warranty. Or take a chance on a new 3rd party, lifetime.

I must admit, my 08 had the alt go out and I bought a new top of the line 3rd party from Advanced Auto and it worked well.

It’s the voltage regulator in the alternator.. check your grounds and connections.
