Default Backup Camera Wiring

I am installing a backup camera and I had a question about how to wire from the head unit. I’m assuming I need to thread the wire from the head unit plugin behind the infotainment system into the engine bay and then down to the inner driver side rails following the taillight wiring. How would I get the wire from the head unit to the engine bay?

I ran my camera wire from the tailgate hatch, down the inside of the tailgate, behind the driver side tail light and under the bed. i followed the oem harness along the driver side frame to the driver side floor board. There is a hole in the floor board that has a piece of duct tape on it. I pulled up the tape and ran the wire through the hole, then under the floor carpet then up to the radio. easy. zip tie the camera wire loosely to the oem harness, then tighten the ties when you are done.

When I installed one in my 05 F150 I ran the wire behind the dash & down behind the l/s kick panel & under the sill plate. Under the sill plate there is a large gromet with wires that come from under the truck to the interior. I cut a slit in the gromet with a razor & ran the wire to the backup camera through there & followed the wire harness on the frame zip tying the camera wire to the harness.

that’s the way I did it. Def the cleanest way.

also ran the wires from that sill for the locking tailgate actuator as well.

You can use the firewall grommet to get the wiring outside the cab but sometimes there are also grommets in the floor near the outer edge of the driver seat area where factory cable bundles sometimes exit the cab. Run it to the back alongside the inside of the drivers side rail along with other factory wiring bundles and zip tie it along the way to keep it secure and away from moving suspension parts or the hot exhaust system. You can use plastic split loom to protect the wires even more. Run the wires and leave em loose until you have verified everything works then go back and tidy them up.

No. You run the wiring behind the dash. Under the steering wheel. Take the kick plate off, and secure the wires. Then run the wires under the plastic trim down to the door sill. Lift the door sill. You will see all of the other factory wires that are under there. Just follow those wires as they exist the cab. Then follow the factory harness towards your tail lamp.
