Default Axle seal issues

I've had to replace both axle seals within 4 months....I never haul anything and I'm not sure what could cause these to all of a sudden start leaking.

Mine went about three years ago, I did both sides at the same time. Haven't leaked since I changed them. The only thing you might want to check is that your vent tube isn't plugged but I think that usually blows the pinion seal out.

Normal wear and tear. Word to the wise, if you change one side you might as well do both. That pretty much applies to everything.

I just changed my axle bearings, seals and pinion seal a while back. I think the stuff just wears out

Good point on that!!!! I x2 that ESPECIALLY as the cost of the rear diff fluid isn't cheap!

I did the same, I did the bearings while I was in there as well. Didn't want to have to dump that fluid again and at the mileage I was at, worth spending the money.

The repair shop did both sides back in December....but when getting an oil change yesterday the noticed the driver side was leaking...of course it was only warranted for 90 days.....they put synthetic oil in the rear diff this time which cost an arm and leg

You might have something else causing it then... bad bearing causing play in the shaft, grooved shaft for some reason... It shouldn't have gone that quickly.

Both of mine went right before the warranty went out. Had them replaced and they must have gotten rough with it and it leaked right away on the drive home, so they had to replace it again. Just ticked over 100k and no other problems.

if your axle shaft was even a little bent or scorned were the seal mates with it, it can cause uneven wear which could lead to it failing. i would get a good look at the seal to see what part of it failed.. it could of just been a defective seal. or it could have just been poor installation. Keep us informed i would like to know why this happened
