AWD vs. 4WD questions
I recently acquired a 2006 F-150 Harley Davidson edition. Among some of the toys this old girl has is an AWD set up. I've had other f150s of this generation with 4wheel drive and they were pretty cut and dry. Vacuum hubs, electronic shift on the transfer case, 4 low, 4 high and 2 low. But this AWD is a horse of a different color. The dial on the dash simply reads AWD and 4H. Dose this mean it has no 4 wheel low? Or is it always in low? Is this set up even used for off road or is it for traction on the street? Also what makes it mechanically different from the other type? I have a spare transfer case at my shop, could I just swap in a normal 4x4 transfer case and be normal? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
