Well both stores carry several brands. I try to avoid Autozone these days because they carry the cheapest of the cheap. All rotors are made overseas now, so rotor quality differences aren't what they used to be, but I still try to purchase a reputable brand. Napa Gold rotors are pretty solid.

However, I will say while in high school and bought the cheapest pads and rotors Autozone offered and never really had any problems.

I just put the O'Reilly rotors:

and pads

on mine, and they work perfectly.

I've had zero issues with the autozone brake pads or rotors just don't buy the cheapest options. Oriellys rotors have bigger cooling fins but the rotor itself is a lot thinner. Two years so far on duralast gold cmax ceramics and duralast rotors. Best of all when the pads wear down they get swapped out for free. Now the $20 pads are a different story.

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for, duralast is more expensive but the quality looks better. I've been told not to use ceramics because they're as hard as a rock and will cause the rotors to wear out faster, I would get motorcraft but it's way too damn expensive

Mine look great at 2 years. I guess it depends on driving habits. A semi metallic pad will be better if you tow a lot anyways.

I've used the O'Reilly parts a number of times with no issues with reliability or longevity. I've also used Autozone and Advanced. The only ones I had problems with were rotors from Advanced (kept warping). There's nothing I do with my cages that require high performance brake parts to stay safe. OEM equivalent works just fine.

Ceramic pads aren't as hard on rotors but they retain more heat. Metallic pads are a little more harsh on rotors but they dissipate heat faster.
