Default Automatic headlight switch stopped working correctly

Hello,

I have always left my truck's (2006 F150 FX4 SuperCab) headlight setting on automatic. Well last night, the headlights didn't turn on, I had to switch to manually on. When I first turn my key to ignition (and headlight switch is in auto), the headlights flash on quickly and then off. The parking lights are left on. No matter what I do, I can not get the headlights to stay on when in auto mode. I noticed this the same day I had the driver's side front tire changed, but I can't figure out how that would be related? Can anyone give me some troubleshooting steps as I am not really even sure where to begin to figure this problem out. Thanks!

Check Central Junction Box Fuse #40.

If that doesn't work, it's either
  • Circuit 15 (RD/YE) open
  • Circuit 196 (DB/OG) open
  • Vehicle security module

I checked fuse 40 and it is good. Where do I find the 2 circuits?

15 runs from the switch to the BSM
196 is the fuse box to the switch

It's the black bubble on the dash - drivers side near the windshield

Yep, it's also the indicator for the PATS passive security system.
