I haven't done it yet (lazy), I believe you're right. The labor time is only 0.4 hours, so it's got to be pretty easy.

I'm off on Monday so I might tackle it - also might work on my window switches, they're starting to misbehave. So much to do, so little time but it does feel good when you can fix stuff yourself! Or at least try to!

My 07 Screw does this also. I'm curious to for when someone tackles this as to how much work it is.

Well I just completed the TSB on my 2007. Not that bad at all. However I just completed an OSHA course on confined space and this is definitely one of those. It really wasn't that bad though. Took me about 45 minutes. Here are a few notes for those of you who are planning on doing this one.
  • If you have adjustable pedals, you can run the pedals all the way out for the bottom right screw.
  • Remove the clip that holds the metal arm and then the arm before starting bolt removal
  • I set my vents on Dash before I started, this may not make a difference but everything lined up for me very easily.
  • Don't completely tighten the screws, just pull them down and then turn the ignition on and cycle the vents. Once you are sure that everything is in the right place and not in a bind, turn the ignition off again and tighten everything down.
That's about all of the advice that I can give on the subject. Also, I didn't use the Ford brand lube. I just used some generic lube with teflon. Just don't use anything that stinks because you will probably be smelling it for quite a while.

My 2008 was making the noise and in the heat mode you could not regulate temp at all.It was the blend door actuator and was replaced under warranty along with replacing the driver power window switch cluster...

Is this confirmed to be only 05+? Reason I ask is because my 04 will have a similar issue at what seems like random times. Every now and then immediately after ignition I'll get a loud grinding type noise that seems to emit from under the dash area, but from what I think is the passenger side. Though my wife says it was louder outside the one time she heard it. It only lasts a quick second and the truck is OK.

What I thought was random timing though might have been during times where the heat or AC would have been left on and maybe the truck is taking a split second to create the vacuum required to control some part of the system?

Either that or I've thought maybe the starter is hanging onto the flexplate, or the front 4wheel drive system has a vacuum leak over time and is disengaging again as engine vacuum is created right after startup???? These were my first thoughts since the wife said it was louder outside the truck than in... but I don't really know.
It doesn't effect driving, and I only ever hear it immediately after startup.
