That is so funny because just tonight on my way home from the gym I was looking at that thing wondering the exact same thing. I am gonna pull that tray out and see how much room is actually in there. I have no idea what to do with it though.

I am going to remove the ash tray assembly and use the existing screw holes to mount a piece of lexan that is painted gray to match the surrounding trim and I'm going to run toggle switches for my 4 KC lights on the front bumper, 1 switch for the trailer hitch lights, and 1 switch for my dvd by-pass. I was going to mount all this near the dome lights, but since I don't smoke I thought it would look better and be more useful to put it in place of the ash tray. Its going to look similar to this...

Kinda like this? I just took out the ashtray place and popped off the face.

And my cig lighter now starts my truck. Cost me ~$7

If you want more ideas, use the search; this subject of using the ash tray area for other mods has come up before.

Don't have truck right now (in shop getting bumper fixed) but I mounted my off road light switches in there... No visible switches inside of the truck, to operate just open the ash tray and there they are...
