Default Tonneau cover

Some background:

Just bought my first truck ever, an 06 Ford F-150 XLT Supercrew. It has the 6.5 bed.

I would like to purchase a tonneau cover, but I'm unsure what models to get and what actually fits. I have no qualms with buying a used cover, but I do have some concerns, and generic questions that I'm having trouble getting straight answers-

I need to cover the bed for long trips, likely through rainstorms - I'll have luggage in there so my priority is keeping the bed dry. I assume the softcovers are a 'no-go' for this reason. So, I'm looking for a used hard top cover with lifts from the back.

1) Do they all integrate with the gate lock? If not, how are they secure? I would prefer to use the existing lock if possible, I'm not sure if there's a design that takes advantage of that.

2) Do all 6'5" covers fit? I saw an ad for a 'full size truck' bed cover for $100 locally, all it said was 'fits full size truck', I believe it came off of a Silverado... One would assume the cover would have to be tailored to the 04-08 150 truck beds, but I'm having trouble determining which models 'do' fit.

3) Will a 'rolling/locking' or folding hard-top be waterproofed?

4) If I plan on adding a toolbox in the future, which I do- is that going to destroy any ideals of keeping it waterproofed? Are there models that either have an integrated toolbox, or have the option to 'cut-out' or shorten to make room for the toolbox?

Thank you for having me on your forums, and I certainly appreciate any input you can provide.

I found a Truxedo low-pro QT, he claims it was on an F-250. Will it fit? Can it roll behind a tool box if I add one?

-any half decent tonneau cover will be water proof for your long trips during rain storms.
-the locks are some what secure, if somebody really wanted to get in, they could. the locks are just a basic locking mechanism such as on a cabinenet. but for that matter if someone wanted to get in your cab the could as well.
-no not all will fit your truck, due to some trucks having a wider bed than others
-dont know anything about the roll up liners
-you cant have a tonneau cover and a tool box, hints why i got rid of my tonneau cover

Access Lorado rollup. 2 locking levers under the top at the rear bar of the cover. (watch the install video. It comes with a rubber seal that you install at the front of the bed before putting the cover on. I have no water problems unless I go through the carwash and then very little gets in. And no, one top does not fit all brands. You will have to lock the tailgate, and a rollup gives you 100% use able area in the bed when you roll it up.
AND IT'S MADE IN THE U.S.A.
Check for that before you buy!!!!

You can shop all brands here, it's just that the chick in the video is pretty sweet!
Install video; all brands install pretty much the same except the tensioner

Thanks guys, you've pretty much sold me on that- especially with the videos. That's exactly what I was looking for- how do I know if the F-250 model will fit my truck- if they have a 6'6" bed size?

how much will your "soft" typical tonneau hold? My truck will be parked outside during the winter and will get some snow built up on it for sure. I dont want to get one and have it collapse the first night it snows. sometimes we can get up to 24" at a time.

check the part number for that top. If the part # matches the f250 and 150 you are good to go. They are not that expensive and I would buy new but it is YOUR truck.
Remember, look for MADE IN THE USA!

If it is used, you won't get that front weather strip, it will still be on the old truck or not in good shape.

All I have seen is that the roll ups can withstand heavy rain and snow. Hope we don't have 24" snowfalls coming my way (selfish of me)
Mine will be outside too
