Anyone use Dorman VCT Solenoids?

For what, the seals that go into the valve covers? I bought mine from eBay. There's a great seller on there who runs a store called OEM Select Auto Parts.

You can get the Solenoid Seal for about $10-$12 (OEM)

On a side note... I would return the Dorman's and go with Motorcraft.. I paid $94/ea for my VCT's when I rebuilt my front end...

Also, you should go ahead and replace everything if you're doing the phasers as well while you have the front cover off the motor... (Timing chain, tensioners, chain guides, sprocket)

FWIW, if you have the money, while you're in there go ahead and swap out the rocker arms and lifters. Those things die constantly. Change them, then keep up with your oil changes religiously and they shouldn't ever go bad again. That eBay store guy sells a package kit with all roller rockers and lifters for an all-at-once replacement.

I realize that collectively we're telling you to buy a hell of a lot of parts... but it'll be worth it once your truck gets another 100,000mi out of it.

I agree with everything stated. But as of right now, I'm going to replace the VCT solenoids....I just ordered the motorcraft ones for $48 a piece. I'll send back the dorman ones. I only have 86,000 miles on my truck and still have 14,000 miles of extended warranty coverage on all internal engine parts through an aftermarket warranty company, they covered an entire rear end replacement 2 years ago totaling over $1500 dollars, which is almost what I paid for the warranty. When my warranty goes up, I'll look into replacing all the timing components if I haven't had them done under warranty. Thanks for all the advice, glad I'm going with OEM parts.

That's the one, and no, they're not hard at all, especially if you just take the cam shafts out. It's literally just a lift-out, drop-in job. The hardest part is just taking the covers off. Make sure you mark the cams.

Sounds like a good job for summertime....I'll look into it.
