Anyone hollowed out their cats?

Cats have more than just a purpose of being loud. It puts circulates the bad chemicals out and puts back pressure back on your engine. And you can't pass inspection without them, and even with it gutted out the piggies nowadays will write you up for being too loud. It's not worth it. Just cut the muffler off

While not all of us appreciate the boys who wear uniforms and protect and serve, calling them piggies is completely beyond the normal level of discourse here.

How many people have their tinted Eyebrow below the AS1 line? front windows darker than legal limit? How many people have blacked out their factory tail lights using VHT nightshades? All of these things WILL fail inspection in Texas, but people still do them and know state inspectors that will pass it, A friend of mine has four vehicles all with LT headers and has done this to all of them, and all of his vehicles are twice as loud as mine "only true dual x-pipe and slp mufflers" and Has never gotten pulled over for being too loud or beyond the decibel limit
I know what I'm getting myself into, so if you want to sit here and preach to me how it's illegal and won't pass state inspection instead of giving a solution. get off the thread

By law, purposely tampering with or destroying any emmisions control device is illegal. The law that it comes from also states the understanding of repairs being needed in order for the emmissions system to operate correctly.

just my 2 cents. I have hollowed them out,and regret it after. usually when they are clogged, never works out well cause you always miss a piece that ends up rattling and annoying you. I know my state it is illegal to punch them or remove them and federal is illegal to tamper with, but we all know rules are made to be broken. do it the right way, buy hi flow cats and o2 sensor extensions. just my .02

Just a heads up to those who remove the cats, or perhaps hollow them out:
My son removed his on his Subaru WRX STi. In Florida, we also do not have state inspections (there are some down south though). He sells the car a year later to a private individual with the typical "as is" statement in the bill of sale. Two weeks later, he's presented paperwork from the new owners lawyer stating he has 48 hours to either buy the car back, or install cats on the vehicle, as it is against Federal law to remove them, and to sell a car (dealers are included) without the required Federal mandated equipment. The new owner was required in the state they lived in to do a smog test.
We check this out with our lawyer; it was a legit, and he had to comply. He bought it back, as he had sellers remorse.
So, if you remove them, keep them; you'll want to install them when you sell it off, or trade it in. Maybe the dealer you trade it into will not notice, and they will either come back at you, or simply install them before they can leadally re-sell the vehicle. If they are hollowed out, it may be more difficult to detect without doing a smog test.
