Yes, I've read all I can really find through the MPG-related and tuner-related threads. I know that driving style and maintenance and such are the biggest factor in what you really get. Fuel economy is not the only reason I'm purchasing a tuner, I'm aware that the investment won't return strictly on that basis.

What I really just want to know about the flashpaq for the 5.4's Mileage XS mode- how much did it increase your mileage and was there a loss or gain of usable power?

I'm undecided between the flashpaq, or the Edge Evolution. I really like the clean mounting pod of the Edge, and how it will be able to display vitals such as oil temp/pressure, trans temp and coolant all in real time. However, the designated economy tune (the type of driving I do most of the time) is very appealing on the flashpaq and if it's a big enough difference that might be enough to make my decision.

**I guess another question I have would be if anyone saw an increase in fuel mileage using the Edge Evolution Programmer in Transmission or Tow Performance mode (while not towing though)

I've had both the superchips flashpaq and the edge evo. Hands down the evo is better. If you want mileage it's all about driving style, and a tuner can help this. I didn't notice much with the mileage tune. The evo seemed to do much better. I ran tow mode all the time. I saw a modest increase of maybe 1 mpg. I was running mud terrians though.

Personally I would skip the superchips and evo and get a php gryphon. It's custom tuneable from the get go, which is were you will get your best results.

Thanks! Just looked at the php gryphon... It's the evo and painted black that they can put other tunes on it... for also more money. hmm..

You can read over my posts from the last few weeks. I have used the Level-2, towing, for the past year and decided to experiment with the Level-1, transmission. For me the Level-1 was noticeably better on MPG and no degradation of power and much smoother shifting, this was done over two 500 mile trips, interstate to mountains and everything in between. I usually get in the 15 - 17 MPG range and I got 20+ over the 1000 miles. Speeds were 65 - 80, altitude 5000', temps in the 90s-100s, I only use premium at least 91 octane.

You can convert an evo to a gryphon and I don't believe it cost anything now, but as soon as you do I'm sure you loose your warranty from edge. I've been working with php over my old evo I had on my old truck. It is fried so they offered to give me the money I paid to try and get it fixed towards a new gryphon. Very good customer service! It also helps they're in Georgia and I'm in TN. A lot closer than Oregon.

As far as I can tell, the gryphon custom tunes are $60 each from their website, and when it seems like they didn't change much to the evo as it was and its $55 more... I'll probably just go with the evo. Gain a couple mpg, be able to adjust other parameters, and gives me a readout for Trans temp, oil temp and pressure. Also seems to have a lot more accurate speedo recal than the flashpaq.

I was able to download php's Pegasus download client and convert my evo to a gryphon for free. They used to charge to do do it and make you ship it in, but now I believe they recover the cost in tuning, 30 if you bought from them, 60 if someone else. So you can get an evo and download Pegasus and try it if you want. Worth a shot.

If you get the EVO make sure you get a pod also, gives it a clean install and look. And if you buy it used from an individual make sure they set their truck back to factory settings before they take out the programmer, you can find threads on this also.
