Default 2004 f150 4x4 just purchased, shakes at 45mph

I just purchased a 2004 F150 FX4 4x4. The mileage is around 90,000. It drove great the first day. The 2nd day I noticed that when you take off and get up to say 45-50 mph, and the rpm drops down to around 1100, and I press on the gas it will shake. It feels like you went over a bump. It doesn't occur every time you get to 45-50mph, only once you get to the that speed and it is steady, and then you give the truck gas. I spoke with the previous driver of the vehicle today(it was a company vehicle), and he said he noticed this also, and thinks it is the rear axle or differential. I was told by a friend who's a mechanic that it sounds like it could be signs of the tranny going out, toque converter or clutch pack. Any thoughts?

Change the tranny fluid. My 2 trucks were having the same symptoms as you described and it solved the issue. I now change the fluid every 30K and not wait till it gets to that point anymore. PS - You can also add a fluid conditioner that will take the shutter out as well.

I'm inclined to agree with Rick... quite often, a misfire could be mistaken for driveline problems... It was a company truck, and has 90k on it, good chance no maintenance has ever been done to it. And it sound like it's only doing it when the truck is under load.

not to disagree with randrball but I agree with Rick. Mine was doing the same thing and once I changed the plugs my problem went away.
