Take them of lightly sand and use a good cleaner to remove any oils dust or waxes primer then color then clear. You can sand during painting to with a high number grit wet but I didn't. Won't let me post pictures but give them good time to dry and harden even if they feel dry they are not. Do get anxious

X2 on the adhesion promoter.
Take your door panels off mirror is a plug and 3-4 nuts and it slides off then tape the reflective part off good.
Handles there are two bolts on the side of the door covered by two black plugs then one nut on the inside of the door. Push the handle out and then unhook the 1-2 rods connected to your locks and door latch then it's off tape the key hole and prep and paint

I've painted my handles. IMO, if you want to do it right and have it look almost factory, take all of them off and sand them completely smooth with 100 grit, then 400 grit before plastic adhesion promoter/primer.
BIG heads up: go to Ford and buy a lock cylinder clip for the driver door lock cylinder. It's pretty difficult to remove the driver handle without breaking this clip. I almost broke even the replacement clip. $6 insurance. I F'd up my clip, rod, almost messed the cylinder up, and had a SNAFU with the whole thing.
For the mirror caps, same drill as far as sanding. I'd mask them off first, then sand, so you don't scuff up the parts you aren't painting.

personally, I would get NEW handles and caps...saw paintable ones in LMC catalog....pretty inexpensive as well
the biggest problem you're going to run into is during your prep work....you're going to have to sand off ALL the texture, for best results.....I've done these before (I work in a body shop) and they are a b*tch to do right...if you're dead set on doing this, IT'S ALL IN THE PREP!!!....when in doubt, sand some more
