Fair Transmission Cost?

Fair Transmission Cost?
was wondering what a fair price for a tranny rebuild is... I've been quoted at $1748 for the whole job including tax. Is that a fair price?

If that includes removal and installation that sounds pretty decent to me. But prices in Canada for stuff like that are usually way higher so my frame of reference might be off.

It also depends on where you are and the average cost of living. I'm in El Paso, Texas and most labor charges are less than most areas of the USA. I could get that transmission replaced here with another already rebuilt model for $1,500 - $1,700. If they took mine out and rebuilt that one it would be a bit more. So, I think your quote is really good, depending where you are and what kind of warantee you get. Shop around to be sure though. Good luck.

Well this shop comes with a one year 12k mile warranty, my friend's getting me a wholesale discount so it'll be $1400 + Tax for upgraded parts and then a completely rebuild trany and torque converter, and fluid. That does include dropping the trany and putting it back.
I'm in knoxville TN too.

If that's the "out the door" price for all that service, I think you're doing really good there. That's more than a fair price for all that plus a warrantee. Plus, you'll have the peace of mind knowing you took care of all that. Please post the results and actual costs once you're done so we can all benefit from your experience.
