NY VFF and EMS First responder. Here VFF run blue lights and EMS run green. It is a courtesy light so no one HAS to pull over for you and most people dont. I just two cheap dual lights I picked up from the local aftermarket autoshop place. May be moving to VT where they run reds and sirens.

NY is 16 to be on a department doing exterior work. When you turn 18 as long as you have all needed classes you are considered Class A Interior.

Well I'm 20 and here in AR I've been told I can't operate any of the trucks from some people and I've been told I can from others.

Full time police officer, volunteer EMT.

In our county you aren't allowed to run "hot" in your POV. No lights, siren, speeding, or running stop signs. (no stop lights out here in the boonies)

I used to work for a Sheriff's Dept in the biggest county is KS, there some VFF were allowed to run lights/siren. Two issues with running "hot" in a POV:

1. 99% of POV's do not have side or even rear lighting. Approaching an intersection with just grill lights and a windshield light is extremely dangerous. People aren't looking for a regular truck when they hear the siren so they will ignore you. I worked a nasty wreck at an intersection because a VFF was responding to a field fire and proceeded through an intersection without clearing it. His thinking, actually put it in the report, was that he had just his lights on so the other guy should have stopped. Just FYI, his truck was equipped with a single red light below the mirror on the windshield and he had his 4 ways on.

2. Most, not all, but most people that run hot to calls in their POV drive like complete idiots. It's almost like when the lights/siren come on, their IQ drops 50 points. The majority of it has to do with young people responding to scenes where they have no business driving there in the POV in the first place. Go to the station, I know I know, sometimes you miss the truck. If that's the case just get there without being an idiot.

Remember:
You can't help anyone if you don't make it to the scene.

Don't get me wrong, I love lights. I have a red/blue deck light in the back window and two white 4x4 led's in the corners of the back window. These lights are strictly for when I arrive on a scene and used for traffic control.

EDIT: Just in case anyone gets upset, I wasn't picking on you firefighters lol

i agree to the fullest the only time my lights are run is if i have cars infront of me or if im on scene (rear hideaways and grill lights) when i come to a light or stop sign all lights must be shut off and we wait i never run lights its not worth causing another accident for the 30 secs u mite have to wait.
