everything you need to know about these HU's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2660662. I had one in my '05. Just use Key 1, if memory serves. I switched to a Pioneer AVIC in the '07 to keep the Sirius/XM, though I do miss many of the Android HU's features. It may have been quirky, but there are ton's of mods and hacks you can perform on them, and there's constantly improved software being developed. I hope this helps...

So if your radio has a Key1 and Key2 wire you should be able to program it without an additional controller. Now as for which wire to which? I guess Ill figure that out when I hook my stereo up next weekend!

Did you ever figure out how to wire it up?

Yeah mine works but honestly 2.5 years later I can't remember how I wired it. I can tell you it works without a controller for my Pumpkin Android head unit.

Do you remember if you took the wires from the sync harness or the main stereo harness?

This is the 04-08 section of the forum. We're not fancy enough to have sync. You'll probably have better luck if you look under the correct generation for your needs. What year are you working with?

Hey brother signed up for an account just so I could say thanks for posting this.

Update after installation:
2005 F-150 Lariat, but from all my research '04-'08 are the same.

It is indeed analog (aka, resistive) steering wheel controls (SWC). If your unit supports analog, you're good. There are 2 wires, pin #18 and pin #19 (the ground) that need to be connected.

The Metra aftermarket harness, #70-5520, DOES NOT come with wires for these pins. Their recommendation? "Splice into vehicle harness". WTF considering the whole point of buying #70-5520 is to NOT do that... I'd post the picture they sent me about it, but it's a waste of time because it's dead wrong. Seriously, I'm unimpressed with those guys, but whatever. They seem to be the most popular game in town, so guess you just have to play ball.

Installation:
Frankly, the easiest thing would be to buy 2x of the Metra harnesses (~$9), smash 1 with a hammer so you can extract 2 of the wires. Don't get all Thor with your hammer, you don't want to damage the actual pinned wires. Just tap it enough to split open the plastic housing. Yes, you can "re-pin" without smashing it, but look on YouTube and watch how to remove pinned wires from these connectors. And if you feel like doing that kind of surgery is easier than spending $9, go for it. In my case, I already had an aftermarket stereo in the vehicle so I had an extra aftermarket harness that I could break open and use wires from to do what Metra should have done with #70-5520 harness. Didn't know that until spending time trying to re-pin the Metra one by moving one of the unused wires (i.e., power antenna pickup which my F-150 doesn't have) to the #18/19 pins. Maybe I'm just not gifted in the wiring department and your surgeon hands can easily do it. But unless you've done that before, spend the $9 and get your smash on. Side note, not all of the wires have the same pin size, #18/19 are the smaller ones (there's 2 sizes). But that'll be really obvious once you look at it. Slide the 2 extracted pinned wires into the #70-5520 @ positions 18 & 19, and then wire them to your stereo per its directions. In my case, the stereo didn't need the ground, only #18. So I wired #19 to the stereo ground connected to the vehicle ground.

Everything works like a charm and I didn't splice into any of my factory wiring whatsoever, no thanks to Metra & their advice.

DISCLAIMER: I'm in no way advocating that this is the 100% best way to do it. All I know is that I spent a full day on this, including conversations with Metra support (comically unhelpful btw) and I am simply posting how I solved the problem. Clearly I'm not a professional stereo installer. But everything looks & works like a pro install, and as mentioned, everything connects as if it were stock. So figured if there's any other DIY'ers attempting this, this might help. You can absolutely do this. Because if Metra is the standard for "pro", I'll take being a DIY'er as a heck of a compliment.

Also, my bad that I can't post any pictures of the #18/19 pin positions. I didn't snap a photo of it before I put it in. But you can easily use the google machine for a pic of the connection positions - pretty sure there's even a post on this forum about it, just don't have that tab open in my browser anymore or I'd provide it (posting this +1 week after install). Or simply look closely at the back of the harness, you'll see a tiny #20 on the bottom row of pins, middle section of the harness, pin to the farthest left of said middle section. Count to the right and you'll be at 19, and one more is #18.

Godspeed.
