Default headers

Also looking at some headers, what should I look for? Long tube vs short tube, material, brands, ect. I've looked at the Banks and JBA, but also seen the Pacesetters for sale for way less. Any chance it produces a drone with my Borla exhaust?

I have a Borla Cat-Back and have zero drone, but I have factory cats and exhaust manifolds. My recommendation is Stainless Works or Dynatech. I'd skip anything else.

OBX long tubes are a great header, at reasonable price. If you do headers go with long tubes. They will net you some good efficiency gains over the shorty's. When you swap headers try and use a new factory manifold gasket instead of the ones provided. They will last longer.
I'm personally going to wait until my factory manifolds crack, at that time I will be springing for some long tubes, and 2 high flow cats. I hear headers are real PITA to install.

Okay so you don't think adding headers will throw anything off in the Borla and cause a drone?

Adding a set of long tubes and a tune will probably get you an extra 25-30hp. Shorties are usually worth 10hp or less. The only problem I could see with Stainless Works long tubes into the Borla is that it will be LOUD...but then again, I like trucks loud.

We design our muffler systems based on whether you are going to have headers or not. We have one muffler to pair with headers but another different design that works well with manifolds.

Are those resonators on that setup you have pictured or cats?
That setup looks nice... What's the price on something like that?

Those are our high performance catalytic converters. We initially designed them for high hp/boosted applications but they came out so nicely we decided to use them on all our systems. They are 200 cell count, heavy duty substrate metal matrix cats. These things are beastly!

With cats, the headers retail at $1490. Without cats, you can save a little money and run offroad for $1290.

They are available in a FACTORY CONNECT or PERFORMANCE CONNECT,

FACTORY CONNECT - Includes Y pipe to attach to your factory exhaust (or another manufacturer's)

PERFORMANCE CONNECT- Includes X pipe to attach to Stainless Works Exhaust to maintain true duals and maximum performance!

Will running a system like that cause our truck to run lean or does it have to run a tune?? I understand that a tune will allow it to run optimal but buying both headers and a tuner at the same time can hurt $ wise. So could we get away with the headers on the truck until a tuner is purchased?

You would be fine.

The truck has enough learning ability to COPE with the headers but not to really use them properly unless you tune it.

The one thing that might happen is a check engine light caused by a Catalytic converter inefficiency code. When you replace the stock restrictive cats with our high flow units, but you don't tell the computer, it sometimes thinks you have broken your stock cats. I'd say about 3/4 of trucks are OK but 1/4 of them will throw this code until you tune it. It doesn't hurt the way the truck runs, but we never like seeing lights on the dash.

You will probably gain 15-20 without a tune but about 30hp with a tune.
