Truck is 2005 XLT 4X4 5.4L

Well it has been fine for about 2 weeks and now I get a check engine light. Truck has got somewhat of a rough idle and I smell gas once in a while. I do have the tell tale ball bearing sound in the driver cat. My Blue Driver reader shows these codes:

Confirmed trouble code
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold bank 1

Pending trouble code
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold bank 2

Anti-Lock brake module codes
U1900

4X4 Control Module Codes
P1867 Transmission transfer case contact plate general circuit failure
P1891 Transfer case contact plate ground return open circuit
C1979 IWE solenoid circuit failure

Starting to think I bought a lot of troubles with this truck. The body is perfect and rust free but so far I have $11K invested all in.
Worth fixing or cut my losses and sell it?

Was this a flood car by chance? Lots of gremlins that seems more electrical now.

Not a flood car. Unit has a clean title and there were two owners before me. A farmer bought it new and then sold it recently to a guy who wanted to get out of the payments.

A local muffler shop will replace both cats at $275 each ($550 total). I know that is not the best way to go but cost is definitely a concern at this point.

I am hoping the 4WD problems are not cashy, I am seeing the dealer next week for a diag and estimate.

If you're wanting to save money, stay far away from the dealer. They're typically more expensive than independent shops, and are often no more skilled (sometimes less) than independent shops. That seems like a lot for cats, but I've never had some replaced so I'm not sure. I'd shop around since I was once quoted $300 for a muffler swap, and the place down the road did it for $100 (same muffler, and I was providing the muffler for both). For exhaust, as long as it doesn't leak, you're good to go. Doesn't really matter if it has pretty welds or not.

4WD problems may be a vacuum leak, but I'm not sure since it talks about circuits.

Well I got the new cats installed and they seem to be working fine according to my Blue Driver tool. O2 levels vary on input of cats and O2 levels steady on output of cats.

I had the Ford garage look at the codes stored:
4X4 Control Module Codes
P1867 Transmission transfer case contact plate general circuit failure
P1891 Transfer case contact plate ground return open circuit
C1979 IWE solenoid circuit failure

The tech checked out the truck and said he sees no problem. I cleared all the codes and none have come back.

So I think all is good now except an intermittent rough idle, not real bad but enough to notice. I think I will try some fuel system cleaner and drive it a bit to see if that clears up.
