Air intake filter idea

Air intake filter idea
ive searched but couldn’t find anything like this but it’s an idea and I’d like to know what people think of it, I have the gotts mod done but what if when I remove the stock intake piece that narrows and just put a 3 inch 90 degree angle in its place and run it to the grill and put a round cold air intake filter on it. Could I use two filters on the truck one at the end of the intake and the stock filter or could I remove the stock filter and only use the one at the beginning?

I’ve heard these trucks run lean from factory so would another filter make it richer in the end maybe making it run better than stock just by restricting very little air to run through two filters?

I have an '04 on which I did MY VERSION of the Gotts mod. My first version looked like this...
But when doing some service work I happened to remove the setup and I saw this...
I realized that the rubber plumbing adapter I was using was actually getting squished and (most likely) was restricting my air intake. I didn't want to cut the nozzle end of the factory intake off and then I'd have to figure out a way to adapt that to the PVC, so I took a long look at the factory setup and cut off that series of "side tubes", then I bought some heat proof sound deadener and wrapped it completely, insulating it so the air coming in would not get heated from the engine bay heat. And here's what I ended up with...
And I agree that putting 2 air filters might just restrict too much intake air. You computer will likely try to compensate for it.

While I can appreciate the ingenuity. These things look like a hack job, and makes others wonder about what else may be hacked up. This is just my opinion. You could save a few dollars and buy the Summit CAI it's made by K&N it looks cleaner, performs better, and makes room for working on the motor.

While your opinion is duly noted, your suggestion costs well over $200... whereas I spent less than $25 on mine. And being retired on a "fixed income" I frankly couldn't justify $200 just so it would look cleaner. And I do have full access to my engine bay. Not complaining mind you, I would have loved to be able to spend the extra $$ to get the one you posted … (One day you'll be old and retired, and you'll understand better)
I do understand your situation. But, it's more than just a clean look.

I'll never understand.
You guys act like you are running some super modified, high horsepower monster of a motor.
It's a 5.4l F150. It's heavy, and I just can't be convinced that this does squat. Not to mention, if someone opened their hood, and I saw these things, I would have to turn and walk away, as to not offend anyone.

These motors do run great,I can run side by side with a mustang I’ve done it with a few, but i myself like to make my own when possible. Not only does it save me 200$ I can Make it however I like and if I decide later on I don’t like it I can toss it out no big deal.
